About Tung Chung
The Tai O link here only exists at weekends. Three sailings arrive on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00, 15:00 and 17:00, with two going back at 12:00 and 16:00, each 41 minutes along the Lantau coast. From Monday to Friday there are none at all.
The Tuen Mun crossing runs every day but only once: 07:30 out, 07:00 in, 23 minutes across the mouth of the Pearl River estuary.
Tung Chung sits on Lantau's north shore beneath the cable car up to the Big Buddha at Ngong Ping, with Hong Kong International Airport on reclaimed land just offshore and the MTR line running under the mountain to the city. With a railway, a cable car and a road all reaching it, the ferry is the least important of the town's connections — which is exactly why the timetable thins to weekends and a single early boat.
