About

About Second Badagry

Second Badagry is a landing on the Lagos lagoon system west of the city, and its 8 active sailings connect it to the waterside network that runs parallel to a road famous for not moving.

The crossing

Second Badagry to Number 1A Waterside takes about 7 minutes, with 4 sailings in our timetable and 8 across the landing in both directions. Operated by Lagos State Waterways.

⚠ Four sailings, and the network shifts

Frequencies on the Lagos waterways change with demand and with the condition of individual jetties. A route listed here may run more or less often than our timetable shows, and confirmation on the day is worth more than a published figure.

Check with the operator before relying on a specific departure.

Why the boats exist

The Lagos–Badagry Expressway west of the city has been under reconstruction for years and carries traffic far beyond its capacity. The lagoon runs alongside it, and a seven-minute crossing regularly beats a road journey many times longer.

Lagos State has invested in the waterways for exactly that reason.

Badagry

A historic coastal town between Lagos and the Benin border, and one of West Africa's significant slave-trading ports from the seventeenth century until the trade's suppression. Several museums record it, including the Badagry Heritage Museum and the point on the shore from which captives were taken.

It is also where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria, in 1842, and the town keeps the first storey building in the country.

Getting here

By boat on the lagoon, or by road on the expressway with time in hand. The larger terminal at CMS on the Marina in central Lagos runs a two-hour service west toward Badagry.
