About
About Rådhusbrygge 3
Rådhusbrygge 3 is where you get the boat to Bygdøy — the peninsula where Oslo keeps the Fram, the Kon-Tiki and the Norwegian Maritime Museum. 27 sailings, thirteen minutes, from the pier in front of the City Hall.
The crossing
Rådhusbrygge 3 to Dronningen takes about 13 minutes, with 27 sailings in our timetable and 54 across the pier in both directions. Operated by Bygdøyfergen.
The boat continues to Bygdøynes, another three minutes round the peninsula.
⚠ Not the same as the Ruter island boats
The city's public transport ferries to Hovedøya, Nesoddtangen and the fjord islands leave from Aker Brygge, a few minutes west along the same waterfront, and are covered by an ordinary Oslo travel ticket.
The Bygdøy museum boat is a separate operator with its own fare. People routinely pay twice by not noticing — and the two piers look alike from the street.
Which stop for which museum
Dronningen serves the Folk Museum and the Viking Ship Museum end of the peninsula. Bygdøynes serves the Fram, the Kon-Tiki and the Maritime Museum.
Two of those are worth the crossing on their own. The Fram, built in 1892 to be squeezed upward rather than crushed by pack ice, carried Nansen north from 1893 and Amundsen south in 1910. The Kon-Tiki raft crossed roughly 8,000 km of Pacific in 101 days in 1947.
Season
This is a seasonal service, not a year-round one. Outside the warm months the bus is the way to Bygdøy — route 30 from the centre, on a standard Ruter ticket.
Where the pier is
Directly in front of the City Hall on the Pipervika waterfront, with the National Museum and Aker Brygge either side.
