Bygdøyfergen Schedules 2026

The Bygdøy ferry is the fast way from central Oslo to the museum peninsula — about 10 minutes across the harbour from Rådhusbrygge 3, next to the City Hall, against 30 minutes or more by bus. It has been running since 1898 and is operated by Norway Yacht Charter.

The route

Boats leave every 20 minutes and call at Dronningen and Bygdøynes, which puts you at the door of the peninsula's museums rather than at a bus stop some distance away. The crossing between the two Bygdøy quays takes about three minutes, so you can use the ferry to move between museum clusters as well as to get out from town.

What is on Bygdøy

Bygdøy is Oslo's museum quarter — technically a peninsula, but awkward enough to reach by road that the boat is the natural approach. The Norsk Folkemuseum is Norway's largest open-air museum, with 160 relocated buildings including the Gol stave church from the 13th century. The Fram Museum holds the polar ship Fram itself, sailed by Nansen, Amundsen and Sverdrup, and you go aboard it.

Beyond the museums the peninsula has beaches, walking paths and restaurants, and in summer it works as a day out rather than a single stop.

Tickets

The ferry is included free with the Oslo Pass. Otherwise tickets are bought from the operator; this is a commercially run service rather than part of the Ruter public transport network, so an ordinary Ruter ticket does not cover it — a distinction worth knowing, because Ruter's own island boats leave from Aker Brygge nearby.
