Ferries from Porto-Vecchio

Porto-Vecchio sits at the southern end of Corsica, in Corse-du-Sud, and its harbour is the island's furthest point from the French mainland — which shows in the timetable. Crossings to Nice and Toulon run between twelve and a half and sixteen hours, all of them overnight, all of them operated by Corsica Ferries.

The service is seasonal in a way the northern Corsican ports are not. Sailings cluster in July and August, thin out through September and stop altogether in winter, when southern Corsica's mainland traffic goes overland to Bastia or Ajaccio instead.

What fills the ships is the coast either side of the town: Palombaggia and Santa Giulia to the south, the Golfe de Porto-Vecchio itself, and the Alta Rocca and Bavella needles inland. The port is a working one — the old salt pans that gave the gulf its trade are still visible from the quay — and the town centre climbs the hill directly above it.
