Ferries from Pedreña

Pedreña lies on the southern shore of the Bay of Santander, in the municipality of Marina de Cudeyo — twenty minutes from the city by launch and 20 km by road around the head of the bay. That difference is why the boats have run here for generations, and why Cantabrians call them pedreñeras.

Los Reginas calls at Pedreña on almost every sailing of its Santander–Somo line. In August there are more than thirty departures a day in each direction, from 07:20 out of Pedreña to 22:05, and the first two boats from Santander terminate here rather than continuing to Somo. A single costs €4.00, a return €6.50.

The village is the largest in its municipality and its shellfish beds — clams and razor clams — are still worked by hand from the marshes. The golf course on the hill above is where Seve Ballesteros grew up caddying. Sailings can be adjusted for the tides.
