About

About Kristiansund hurtigbåtkai

Eighteen sailings a week run to Ringholmen, 8.1 nautical miles out at 20 to 30 minutes, on three or four day patterns. Edøya is 15 miles away with six, at 35 to 45 minutes, including a 20:00 departure that is the last boat of the day.

The fast craft covers 15 miles in 35 minutes — this is a different kind of vessel from the small ferries that work the fjords inland, and the distances out here need it.

Both destinations are places the road does not reach quickly. Ringholmen lies in the Aure archipelago on the far side of open water; Edøya is the ferry point for Smøla, a flat island of bog, rock and some of the earliest large wind farms in Norway, where the highest ground barely tops sixty metres. This quay is where the outer islands connect, and it is a separate operation from the little Sundbåten boats that circle the town's own harbour a few hundred metres away.
