Ferries from Kilboghamn hurtigbåtkai

Kilboghamn's express boat quay runs 50 minutes to Melfjordbotn — the head of a fjord that reaches back under the Svartisen icecap and has no road out. Three sailings serve it, and that is what this quay is for.

⚠ Three sailings into a roadless fjord

Fifty minutes each way with three departures means the return is the whole plan, not an afterthought. There is no road at the head of Melfjorden and no second boat.

Not the car ferry quay

The Kilboghamn car ferry quay is a separate landing in the same place, carrying county road 17 traffic across the Arctic Circle to Jektvik in fifty minutes with 11 sailings of its own. It takes vehicles; this one does not.

Melfjorden

A long, narrow fjord running east into the mountains beneath the western edge of Svartisen. There is no road along it and none at the head — a handful of properties, reached by this boat and nothing else.

Walkers use it as an approach to the glacier's western arms and the high country behind.

Rødøy municipality, Nordland, north of the Arctic Circle on the Kystriksveien coastal route.

Season

Year round on a reduced winter pattern, with weather cancellations. On a route this thin, one cancelled sailing removes the day.
