About
About Kapelløya Ny-Hellesund
Kapelløya is one of the islands of Ny-Hellesund, a group of small islands and sounds off Søgne in Agder that formed a sheltered anchorage used by sailing ships for centuries. Its 26 sailings run 09:15 to 19:45, two to five minutes between the islands. The rock carvings and the old pilot station here are protected, and the sound has been a summer sailing destination since the nineteenth century. The boat works a rotation between the three islands rather than a single crossing. The sound was used as a harbour of refuge in the age of sail, and the pilot houses on the islands survive from that period. Helgøya and Verftet, the other landings, are on the neighbouring islands across the narrow sound.
