About
About Irede
Three sailings a day at 06:30, 10:30 and 16:00, with the same times in the other direction, 18 a week each way. The crossing to Abule Osun is half a nautical mile and takes 20 minutes.
The spacing is what stands out: four hours between the first and second boat, five and a half between the second and third. Whoever set this timetable was not trying to provide a service through the day — they were covering the start of the morning, the middle and the end of the afternoon.
Irede is a riverine community in the Amuwo-Odofin area, on the creeks between Snake Island and the mainland, and Abule Osun is the landing on the Ojo side. Places like this were fishing villages that the city reached rather than absorbed; their connection to Lagos is still a boat with three departures, and the road is somebody else's.
