About
About Imore Waterside
The waterside and the community are two ends of the same name, 0.2 nautical miles apart, and the boat between them is booked at eight minutes. Four sailings a day — 06:00, 10:00, 14:00 and 16:00 — 24 a week each way, Monday to Saturday.
Eight minutes for two tenths of a mile is slow even by the standards of these creeks, where a similar distance elsewhere takes two or three.
Imore sits on the creeks behind Snake Island in the Ojo area, one of the riverine communities that Lagos's port expansion has grown around without absorbing. The naming tells the story: the waterside is where the boat lands, the community is where people live, and everything in between is water. A four-sailing day, evenly spaced from six in the morning to four in the afternoon, is the rhythm of a place with no other way in.
