About
About Île d'Yeu
Île d'Yeu lies about 20 km off the Vendée coast, and every scheduled boat arrives at Port-Joinville on its north-east side. The link to Fromentine takes roughly 35 minutes by catamaran and runs all year.
The year-round service
Yeu Continent, created by the Vendée council in 1949 and part of the regional Aléop network since 2018, makes more than 2,500 crossings a year — carrying island schoolchildren to the mainland and patients home from hospital as much as it carries visitors. Its three ships are the catamarans Pont d'Yeu and Châtelet (430 passengers each) and the mixed cargo vessel Insula Oya III (390 passengers, plus vehicles and freight).
Fares and getting about
Tickets are returns: €40.00 for an adult outside July and August, €43.20 in high season, €48.00 on the cargo ship. Under-4s travel free, and outside the summer peak under-13s with an adult go free on Wednesdays. Most visitors leave the car at Fromentine and cycle on the island.
