About
About Ijon
The two ends of this crossing are in different states. Ijon is in Lagos; Ijon Odo, 0.4 nautical miles and five minutes away, is in Ogun. The same name, the same community, and a state boundary running down the middle of the water.
Three sailings a day each way — 06:00, 12:00 and 15:00 — eighteen a week, Monday to Saturday, with identical times in both directions.
The creeks north-west of Lagos cross the state line repeatedly, and settlements that grew along a single waterway ended up administratively split when the boundaries were drawn on land. For the people using the 06:00, that division means two sets of authorities for one village. Lagos State Waterways runs the boat on both sides of it, which is the practical answer to a line the water does not recognise.
