Ferries from Gåsö

Gåsö gets one visit a day. The boat arrives at 11:21 from Hästvom, leaves for Kalvö at 11:31, and does not return until 16:30 — five sailings a week on each leg and nothing at all outside those two windows.

The crossings run 8 to 14 minutes, which by this archipelago's standards is a long way: most of the neighbouring islands are 4 or 5 minutes apart.

Gåsö was one of the more substantial fishing settlements on this coast, with a permanent community and its own school well into the twentieth century, before the population moved to the mainland and the houses became summer places. A single midday call, weekdays only, is what remains when the people who needed a boat every morning are no longer there — the timetable follows the population, not the map.
