There is one sailing and it goes at 07:00. Twelve nautical miles down the lagoon to Addax/Sandfill at Maroko on Victoria Island, 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday — six sailings a week, and no return entry in the timetable at all.
The shape of that is unmistakable: a single early boat carrying people from the eastern end of the lagoon into the business district, six days a week, with the journey home left to the road.
Egbin is the site of Nigeria's largest thermal power station, a 1,320 megawatt plant on the Lagos lagoon at Ijede, built in the 1980s and fed by gas from the Niger Delta. A jetty at a power station tends to exist for equipment first and people second; the fact that this one carries a scheduled passenger sailing across the whole lagoon says something about how long the same journey takes by road.
