About
About Baiyeku
Two quite different services leave from the same jetty. The local one crosses 3.1 nautical miles to Oke Ira Nla in seven minutes, at 06:00 and 11:00, with the boats coming back at the same two times. The other is a commute: 8.9 miles to Victoria Island at 06:30, returning at 17:30.
That second pair is an eleven-hour working day with no alternative in between — miss the 17:30 and the way home is the road round the top of the lagoon through Ikorodu, which at that hour is the reason people took the boat in the first place.
Baiyeku sits on the Ikorodu shore, on the northern side of the Lagos lagoon, in a stretch of riverside communities that the city's growth reached late. Everything here runs Monday to Saturday, six sailings a week per leg, under Lagos State Waterways.
