Ferries from Ågskardet ferjekai

Ten minutes. Ågskardet to Forøy is the shortest of the six ferry crossings on county road 17, and with 23 sailings it is the one that interrupts the drive least.

The crossing

Ågskardet to Forøy takes about 10 minutes, with 23 sailings in our timetable. 46 active sailings across the quay in both directions.

It sits in Meløy municipality, north of the Arctic Circle, on the stretch of Fv17 between Jektvik and Ørnes.

⚠ Short does not mean casual

A ten-minute crossing with frequent sailings is the easiest ferry on the Coastal Route, which is exactly why people arrive at it without checking. The last departure is earlier than a summer evening suggests, and after it there is no road round.

Fv17 is a sequence of ferries. One missed link ends the day's driving.

Svartisen

The road here runs beneath the western edge of the Svartisen icecap, the second largest glacier in mainland Norway. Arms of it come down close to sea level, and from the ferry and the road the ice is visible above the fjord.

Access to the glacier itself is from Holandsfjorden nearby, by boat and then on foot.

Kystriksveien

County road 17 runs from Steinkjer to Bodø along the coast, using six ferries and taking several days to drive properly. It is slower than the inland E6 by a wide margin and it is the reason people come.

Practicalities

No reservations, arrival order, AutoPASS billing by registration, free for foot passengers. Even in July the queue here rarely exceeds a sailing, because the boats come back so quickly.
