About
About Trafikverket Färjerederiet
Färjerederiet is the ferry division of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and the largest ferry operator in Sweden. It runs the country's free "vägfärjor" — road ferries that count as part of the public road network, carrying vehicles across straits, fjords and lakes all over the country.
Free road ferries
Among its roughly forty crossings is the Kolhättan–Svanesund ferry to the island of Orust on the Bohuslän coast. Like the other road ferries, it is free to use and runs frequently as an extension of the road, from the Bohuslän skerries to the Stockholm archipelago and the northern lakes.
Fleet and green shift
The rederi operates a fleet of more than seventy ferries, both cable ferries and free-sailing vessels, and is steadily electrifying them with new battery-powered boats. There is no ticket: the road ferries are free of charge, funded as part of the national road system.
