About

About Star Ferry

The Star Ferry has crossed Victoria Harbour between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon since 1888. It is both a working part of the cross-harbour transport system and, as National Geographic Traveler once put it, one of the "50 Places of a Lifetime" — a crossing that costs a few dollars and still ranks among the city's defining experiences.

Hours

Ferries run 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. The Tsim Sha Tsui pier sits at the tip of Kowloon, a few minutes from the waterfront promenade and the Avenue of Stars.

Going electric

In August 2026 the company opened a shipbuilding tender for the design and construction of an electric ferry — the first step in replacing a fleet whose green-and-white livery has barely changed in generations.

More than the crossing

Alongside the scheduled service the company runs harbour and water tours, hires out ferries for charter, and rents its piers as event venues. It has collaborated with The Peninsula and the STAY hospitality brand, sells merchandise online and through pier vending machines, and in July 2026 ran a free-ride day sponsored by Sun Life.

On the piers

Accessible access and three-colour recycling bins are provided at the terminals. Routes, timetables and fares are published in English and both Chinese scripts, with adjustable text size built into the site.
