About SeaBus (TransLink)
SeaBus crosses Burrard Inlet, and the useful distinction is who does what. TransLink — officially the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority, created in 1999 — plans and funds the service. Coast Mountain Bus Company operates it. CMBC is the largest company in the TransLink enterprise and runs the SeaBus alongside 96% of Metro Vancouver's bus service.
Twelve minutes, 395 seats
Each vessel seats 395 passengers and crosses between Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver and Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver in 12 minutes. CMBC's roughly 6,000 employees work across six bus depots, offices in New Westminster and Vancouver, and two SeaBus terminals.
The frequency tightens twice a day
Departures are not evenly spaced. From Lonsdale Quay they run every 15 minutes from 05.47, then every 10 minutes between 07.00 and 09.30, back to 15, then 10 again from 15.00 to 18.30, and every 30 minutes after 21.02. Waterfront mirrors this about fifteen minutes later, with its 10-minute bands running 07.15–09.45 and 15.15–18.45. Weekends drop the peaks: Saturday is a flat 15 minutes all day, Sunday and holidays do not start until 08.02.
It sails past one in the morning
The last boat from Waterfront is 01.22 Monday to Saturday and 23.22 on Sundays and holidays; from Lonsdale Quay, 01.00 and 23.00. One practical detail TransLink publishes and most timetables would not: the doors at Waterfront Station leading down to the SeaBus open only ten minutes before the first departure, so turning up early does not get you inside.
Both terminals rebuilt in 2026
A maintenance and upgrade programme completed in spring 2026 replaced the electrical substations, transformers and backup generators, the fire water lines, the automatic doors at the loading bays and the emergency exit ramps, and added an entrance canopy at Lonsdale Quay and new ventilation in the Waterfront skywalk. CCTV went from analogue to IP cameras in June 2026. Indigenous art and signage was installed at both terminals to support language revitalisation, sampling the artwork carried aboard the Burrard Chinook, which launched in July 2021.
