About
About Ressels Rederi
Ressel Rederi is a Stockholm shipping company running commuter boats, leisure crossings and island freight across four separate networks.
EMELIE — the one most visitors will use
M/S Emelie links Hammarby Sjöstad — calling at Lumabryggan, Henriksdal and Barnängsbryggan — with Masthamnen by the Viking terminal, Djurgården and Nybroplan. It runs all year, with extra sailings in spring and summer.
The route is useful precisely because of where it stops: get off at Djurgården for the Vasa Museum, Skansen and ABBA The Museum; start in Hammarby Sjöstad and finish with an evening walk from Nybroplan, or the reverse. It combines sightseeing with actually getting somewhere, and avoids the street traffic entirely.
The other three
- Sjöstadstrafiken — Barnängsbryggan, Lumabryggan and Henriksdalsbryggan. Free to ride; this is city transport, funded as such.
- Trafiken i Västervik — Västervik out to Hasselö and Idö.
- Kalmarsundstrafiken — Kalmar to Färjestaden, summer only, set up for cyclists.
Freight to places without roads
The company moves goods throughout the Stockholm archipelago and in Gothenburg's southern islands, with cold storage on board — so the same boat handles heavy vehicles and a food delivery to a house with no road to it. Whole cargo vessels can be chartered.
Practical
Tickets are bought on board; Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Timetables differ for Monday–Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The same company runs a free service and a paid one
This is the unusual thing about Ressel. Some of the boats in our data belong to Stockholm’s own free crossing in Hammarby Sjöstad — Luma to Henriksdal carries 42 departures at two to four minutes. Others are commercial city routes: Allmänna Gränd to Nybrokajen and Masthamnen to Allmänna Gränd, 22 departures each at eight to ten minutes.
So the operator name on a Stockholm quay tells you who is sailing but not what you will pay. Across the whole network our data holds 212 departures, running 07:14 to 20:18 with four distinct day patterns. Check the route, not the company, before assuming a fare.
