Medmar Schedules 2026

Medmar is the slow option in the Bay of Naples, and that is the point. Where the hydrofoil operators cross to Ischia in fifty minutes or an hour, Medmar takes eighty to ninety — because its ships carry cars.

Eighty minutes from Pozzuoli, ninety from Naples

Pozzuoli to Ischia runs 80 minutes, twice a day at 06:25 and 09:40. Naples to Ischia takes 90, departing 17:35. Set that against the fast craft on the same water and you are paying about half an hour each way for the ability to bring a vehicle.

Pozzuoli is the driver's port

The early departures are from Pozzuoli, not Naples, and for anyone arriving by car that is the practical choice. Pozzuoli sits west of the city on the Campi Flegrei coast, outside the Naples traffic, with a shorter sea crossing at the end of it. Drivers heading for Ischia who default to the Molo Beverello are usually adding an hour on land to save nothing at sea.

A 06:25 sailing is a working boat

The first Pozzuoli departure leaves at twenty-five past six in the morning. That is the vehicle boat that puts vans, trades and supplies on Ischia before the day begins — the island has a year-round population of tens of thousands and everything on it arrives this way. Visitor traffic is the afternoon business; the morning belongs to the island's economy.

Car ferries sail when hydrofoils do not

The other half of the trade-off is weather. A conventional ferry keeps running in sea states that cancel fast craft, so on a marginal day the slow boat is not just slower, it is the one that actually goes. In autumn and winter that reverses the usual calculation entirely.
