Les Bateaux Verts work the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, running scheduled shuttles between the ports around the bay — and the reason to use them is simple: in July the coast road to Saint-Tropez is a queue, and the sea is not.

The shuttle network

Services link Sainte-Maxime, Les Issambres, Port-Grimaud — at both the Capitainerie and the Église landings — and Les Marines de Cogolin with Saint-Tropez, which has two arrival points: the Vieux Port and the Nouveau Port at the Estacade.

Some shuttles cannot be booked online

Worth knowing before you plan around one: certain crossings are not reservable online at all — tickets are sold only at the ticket office at the quay. Check which service you need before assuming you can hold a place from home.

Excursions

Alongside the shuttles the company runs day trips to Porquerolles and the Île de Port-Cros in the Hyères archipelago, along the Calanques de l'Estérel with their red porphyry cliffs, around the Trois Caps Sauvages, and a combined trip to Cannes and the Île Sainte-Marguerite.

Twenty minutes by water against an hour by road

Saint-Tropez to Sainte-Maxime carries 56 departures and the return 55, each taking 20 minutes, running from 00:00 to 23:30. The two towns face each other across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez; the road runs the whole way round it, and in July that drive is measured in hours rather than kilometres.

That is the entire proposition, and the round-the-clock span shows it is taken seriously — boats crossing after midnight in season are carrying people home from restaurants, not sightseeing. Two day patterns apply across the 111 departures, so the shoulder-season timetable thins out while the peak one runs almost continuously.
