About LD Lines
LD Lines was a French cross-Channel ferry operator, part of the Louis Dreyfus Armateurs group, active from 2005 until it was absorbed into DFDS in the mid-2010s. For a decade it ran ro-pax ferries between England and France.
Portsmouth to Le Havre
Its flagship route linked Portsmouth with Le Havre, launched in October 2005 after P&O Ferries withdrew from the crossing. Over the years the company also ran Newhaven–Dieppe, Dover–Boulogne and several Bay of Biscay lines, carrying cars, passengers and freight.
Absorbed into DFDS
In 2012 LD Lines' Channel operations were merged into a joint venture with the Danish operator DFDS, which took full control soon after; the last LD Lines-branded Portsmouth–Le Havre sailing ran on 31 December 2014. Its ships, such as the Norman Spirit and Norman Voyager, passed to DFDS. Those routes are now operated under the DFDS Seaways brand.
