About FRS DFDS
FRS Iberia/Maroc was founded in 2000 by the German shipowner Förde Reederei Seetouristik and, for many years, was the only operator serving every crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar — from Tarifa and Algeciras to Ceuta, Tangier and Tanger Med. Its flagship route was long the Tarifa–Tanger Ville crossing, the shortest sea link between the two continents at under an hour.
In September 2023, FRS announced that its Iberia/Maroc business had been acquired by DFDS, and the company formally became part of the DFDS ferry division in January 2024, combining FRS's regional strength with DFDS's European shipping network. On 4 May 2025 the operator closed the historic Tarifa–Tanger Ville route it had run for 25 years, carrying more than 16 million passengers; today, as FRS DFDS, it focuses on the Algeciras–Tanger Med and Algeciras/Tarifa–Ceuta crossings with high-speed and conventional vessels.
