Fjellvåken Schedules 2026

Fjellvåken crosses Møsvatn, a reservoir on the edge of the Hardangervidda plateau, and the crossing takes 105 minutes — nearly two hours on a lake. That length is the whole point: it carries walkers from the road at Skinnarbu to Mogen, which has no road at all.

Two departures a day, each way

Skinnarbu to Mogen leaves at 09:30 and 13:30; Mogen to Skinnarbu at 11:30 and 15:30. The pattern is a shuttle: out, back, out, back, with the last return leaving the roadless end in mid-afternoon. Miss it and you are staying on the mountain.

Mogen is a trailhead, not a destination

The lodge at Mogen sits at the southern edge of the Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest high plateau, and the boat is the standard way onto it from this direction. Walkers land and continue north on foot for days. That is why a two-hour lake crossing supports a scheduled service at all — there is no other approach that does not add a very long walk.

The timing works one way better than the other

The 09:30 out and the 15:30 back give a full day on the plateau; the 13:30 out and the 11:30 back do not pair usefully at all. In practice the morning departure is the one that matters for anyone starting a walk, and the early-afternoon one exists mainly to bring people back.

An hour and three quarters is weather-exposed

Møsvatn is a large body of water at altitude, and a 105-minute crossing on it is not a sheltered hop. Wind cancels services like this, and there is no road alternative on the Mogen side. Anyone with a fixed onward commitment should treat the return sailing as the risk in the plan.

What this page does not have

The operator’s site was rate-limiting requests when we tried it, so fares, vessel details and the exact season are not covered here. On a mountain lake service the season is short and shifts with ice and water level — confirm before travelling rather than assuming these times apply outside high summer.
