Aznar Shipping began with a coal barge. In the early 1990s Emmanuel B. Aznar bought the LCT Melrivic 1 for Aznar Mining Co., moving coal from Cebu to Negros and taking occasional tramping work. The shipping company was incorporated as a family corporation in 1992, and has grown from that single barge into a multi-vessel operator with nine or more ships on ten routes across the Visayas and Mindanao.

Bantayan Island

On the Cebu side the company works the crossing between Medellín, at Barangay Kawit, and Santa Fe on Bantayan Island — about 55 minutes, with a passenger fare around ₱250. The ships are ropax: passengers, vehicles and cargo together, which on an island route matters as much for the delivery van as for the tourist.

Fleet renewal

A fleet modernisation programme has been running since 2021, replacing older tonnage with newer passenger, vehicle and cargo vessels. For routes like this one — where the alternative to the boat is no alternative at all — that programme is the difference between a reliable daily link and a fragile one.
