About the Zitelle AS. Marco-San Zaccaria E crossing

Four-tenths of a nautical mile in five minutes: Zitelle A to S. Marco-San Zaccaria E crosses the Giudecca Canal at its widest, from the Giudecca shore to the waterfront below the Doge's Palace. Forty-three sailings run in the current timetable, from 06:36 to 20:36.

Nothing crosses after half past eight in the evening from this pontoon. The Giudecca's night connections run from its other landings, which is why a canal a few hundred metres across still needs several pontoons on the same shore.

The Zitelle church behind the pier was designed by Palladio and finished after his death, built as part of a hospice for young women without dowries — the zitelle the name refers to. From this pontoon ACTV also works Giardini B and both S. Giorgio landings; the San Zaccaria side connects onward to Arsenale, Murano and the Giardinetti.
