About the Drag ferjekai – Kjøpsvik ferjekai crossing
Two ferry services cross the Tysfjorden, and they are bought together. One carries E6, the national trunk road; this one carries Riksvei 827 between Drag and Kjøpsvik. The same operating contract covers both, and it requires the regular vessels here to run on electricity rather than diesel.
Nine sailings, all of them daily
Every departure runs seven days a week, from 06:50 to 23:00. There is no weekday-versus-weekend split at all, which is rare enough in Nordland to be worth noting: the calendar on this route needs no reading, only the clock.
Forty-five minutes, and why it matters
The crossing takes 45 minutes over roughly 6.8 nautical miles. That is nearly twice the E6 crossing further out, on a shorter distance — the boat is working further into the fjord, where the run between quays is longer than the map suggests.
Local traffic, not through traffic
Unlike the E6 crossing at Skarberget, this link is not on anyone’s route from one end of Norway to the other. It connects two communities on opposite shores, which is why it runs a simple daily pattern and stops before midnight. The plan runs to 31 January 2027.
