About the Andalsvåg ferjekaiHorn ferjekai crossing

This is one of six ferry crossings on a single road. Fylkesvei 17, the Kystriksveien, runs 630 kilometres from Bodø down to Steinkjer, and it cannot be driven without boarding a boat six times. Åndalsvåg to Horn is one of those six: an 18-minute passage over about two nautical miles, operated by Torghatten Trafikkselskap.

Saturday has its own timetable

Three departures — 08:20, and on through to 17:45 — run on Saturdays only, which is unusual: most Norwegian ferry routes treat Saturday as part of a weekend block or a weekday block, not as a category of its own. A further single sailing at 16:40 runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The rest of the day

Eleven departures run every day, spanning 09:15 to 22:40. Five more run Monday to Friday, starting at 06:25 — the early group that exists for people working rather than touring. Twenty sailings in total.

Driving the coastal road

If you are working through Kystriksveien in one trip, the ferries are the constraint rather than the driving: each is timetabled independently, none of them is timed to connect with the next, and a comfortable margin at one quay can evaporate at the following one. Build the day around the boats, not the kilometres.

Vehicles, pets & onboard

  • Foot passengers travel free on ferries
  • AutoPASS & FerryPay ferry payment
  • No reservation — queue at the quay
  • Tickets in the Reis app

Onboard facilities and vehicle, pet and luggage policies vary by operator and vessel; confirm details with the operator before booking.

Can I take a pet on this ferry?

Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with Nordland fylkeskommune, so declare your pet when booking.

What's the luggage allowance?

Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.
