About

About Torfinnsbu turisthytte

Torfinnsbu is served from both ends of Bygdin: Eidsbugarden 8.6 nautical miles west at 60 minutes, Bygdin 6 miles east at 45. Fourteen sailings a week on each leg, from 09:05 to 16:30, until the middle of September.

Jotunheimen og Valdresruten Bilselskap runs the boat — a bus company operating a lake service, which is what happens when the water is a link in a road network rather than a route of its own.

Bygdin lies at 1,060 metres, higher than Gjende in the next valley north, in the eastern part of Jotunheimen where the peaks are rounder and the walking gentler. Torfinnsbu is a small lodge on the northern shore below the Torfinnstindane; without the boat it is a long day's walk from either road end, which is the arrangement most of these mountain huts were built around.
