Ferries from Starigrad

Starigrad on the Croatian mainland below the Velebit mountains takes four sailings between 05:00 and 14:30, an hour and fifty minutes to Split with Jadrolinija. The five o'clock departure is the working boat: this stretch of the Dalmatian coast has a thin road connection and the ferry serves residents travelling to the city rather than visitors. The Paklenica national park, whose canyons cut into the Velebit range directly behind the town, is the reason most outsiders come — and the early sailing is the practical way back for anyone climbing there. Jadrolinija also runs faster catamarans on parts of this coast, but the Split sailings from here are conventional ferries carrying vehicles.
