Ferries from Sør-Gjæslingan hurtigbåtkai

Three sailings a week reach Rørvik, 13.9 nautical miles away at 40 minutes, and a single one runs the 24.8 miles to Namsos in 80. That Namsos sailing ends on 15 August; the Rørvik service continues to 1 September.

Two dates, two weeks apart, mark the end of the season — the longer the leg, the earlier it stops.

Sør-Gjæslingan was the largest fishing station south of Lofoten, with over a thousand fishermen crowding onto these skerries during the winter season, until the last permanent residents left in the 1970s. The whole settlement is now protected, its rorbu cabins and quays kept as they were. A summer-only boat to a preserved fishing station is a fair description of what has happened to this coast.
