About Siargao Island/Dapa
Three sailings a day come over from Surigao — 06:00, 10:00 and 15:30 — each taking 90 minutes on the MV Sean Ferry 2 or the MV Nathan Ferry 3. The departures in the other direction are not recorded, so the published sheet shows arrivals only.
Dapa is the port, not the destination. Nearly everyone landing here continues by van or motorbike across the island to General Luna, about 45 minutes away on the east coast, where the surf break at Cloud 9 and the accommodation are.
Siargao is a teardrop-shaped island at the top of the Philippine Trench, which is what gives that coast its swell — the water offshore drops to some of the deepest anywhere on earth. The boat from Surigao remains the cheap way in, and the 06:00 exists so a traveller off the overnight bus from Butuan does not spend a day waiting on a pier.
