About

About Selvær ferjekai

Træna is 5.7 nautical miles from Selvær at 30 to 50 minutes, with seventeen sailings a week outbound and thirteen back. Onøy is far further — 18.5 miles, 135 minutes, three sailings a week.

That two-and-a-quarter-hour crossing is one of the longest scheduled ferry legs on the Helgeland coast, and it is what connects this island group to the mainland ferry network.

Selvær is the outermost inhabited island of Træna, which claims some of the oldest settlement evidence in Norway — remains found in the Kirkhelleren cave on nearby Sanna date back around 9,000 years. Fewer than a hundred people live out here now, on flat skerries with the open Norwegian Sea on three sides and no shelter worth the name.
