Sant'Erasmo is the lagoon's market garden — an island roughly the size of Venice itself but with a few hundred residents, growing the violet artichokes that appear on Rialto stalls in spring. This landing at Forte Massimiliano serves Lido S. Nicolò with six sailings between 09:20 and 18:35, a fifteen-minute crossing. The fort the stop is named after is an Austrian coastal battery from the 1840s, now standing among the fields. Service is sparse and daylight-only; islanders use the more frequent Fondamente Nove line for anything urgent. The island is nearly as large as Venice but holds a few hundred people, which makes the contrast in density between the two the sharpest anywhere in the lagoon.
