S. Elena is Venice's eastern tip, the quietest inhabited corner of the city, and pontoon D serves the crossing to Lido S.M.E. with 18 sailings running almost around the clock — 00:06 to 23:15, seven minutes each way. The name comes from the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo next to the quay, home of Venezia FC and one of the few football grounds in Europe that visiting supporters reach by boat. The district itself was built on reclaimed ground in the early twentieth century, with wide streets and trees, which is why it looks nothing like the rest of Venice. Match days aside, the district is residential and quiet, and its park is one of the few substantial green spaces in the historic city.
