About

About Revlingen brygge

This is not a sea quay. Revlingen is a landing on Femunden, Norway's second largest natural lake, served by MS Fæmund II — a vessel built in 1905 that has worked the same route for more than a hundred years and is still the only way some houses here can be reached.

Where the boat goes

8 active sailings across the landing.

⚠ A lake ferry is not a sea ferry

Femunden freezes. The season is short, the timetable is built around summer walkers and the few permanent residents, and outside the season there is no service at all.

Check the operating dates before anything else. This is the one crossing on this site where "is it running this month" is a more important question than "what time".

What the boat has carried since 1905

Goods, post, people and timber. The lake was a transport route long before the roads reached this part of Hedmark, and because some properties still have no road, the vessel remains a working service rather than a heritage attraction.

It happens to also be over a century old, which makes it both at once.

Femundsmarka

The national park east of the lake is one of the emptiest places in southern Norway — pine forest, bog, reindeer and almost no infrastructure. The boat landings are the standard way walkers get in and out, and the classic trip is to be dropped at one and picked up at another days later.

Cycles are carried, and the gravel tracks on the eastern shore make that a good way to use the lake.

Practicalities

Confirm the timetable and the landing directly with the operator. Several of these stops are request calls rather than fixed ones, and the boat does not wait for people who have not arranged to be there.
