About
About Queens Wharf
Queens Wharf is Wellington's city-centre ferry landing, serving the harbour route to Days Bay with 36 sailings between 06:10 and 19:20 on a crossing of about 25 minutes. It lands at Eastbourne on the far shore, where the beach and the walking tracks over the hills begin, and it runs as part of the Metlink public transport network rather than as a tour boat. Wellington's harbour is exposed enough that a southerly can make this a rough 25 minutes; sailings are occasionally cancelled outright in heavy weather, and the service does not run late into the evening. Days Bay is the terminus, but the boat also calls at Matiu/Somes Island in the middle of the harbour, a former quarantine station now managed as a nature reserve.
