About

About QTN Bay

QTN Bay is a landing on Otago Regional Council's Queenstown harbour service, connecting to Bayview with 28 sailings from 08:25 to 21:45 on crossings of five to ten minutes. This is a lake service rather than a sea crossing — Lake Wakatipu is long, deep and hemmed in by mountains, and the boat cuts across water that the road has to go round. The council runs it as public transport on the regional network, not as a scenic cruise, though the view is the same either way. The schedule is seasonal and thins outside the summer months. Queenstown's road network is constrained by the lake and the mountains behind it, so the ferry removes a drive that can take three or four times as long in summer traffic.
