About Porto di Asinara
Three days a week get two extra sailings. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays the island adds a 16:30 and a 17:00 departure to the standard 09:45, 10:00, 13:00 and 18:00 — six boats instead of four, and a considerably longer day ashore for anyone visiting.
The crossing to Porto Torres is 14.2 nautical miles and 75 minutes, operated by Ensamar with the same pattern in reverse: 08:15, 08:30, 11:30 and 16:30 daily, plus 15:00 and 15:30 on those three days.
Asinara was a quarantine station, then a prison island from 1885 until 1997, and its most secure wing held Mafia bosses in the 1980s — Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino prepared the Maxi Trial here for their own safety. The whole island became a national park the year the prison closed, and the albino donkeys that gave it its name now share it with visitors who must be off it by evening.
