Ferries from Peddocks Island (PI)

Every boat that arrives leaves again 45 minutes later. Hingham despatches at 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, 14:30 and 16:30; Peddocks sends them back at 09:45, 11:15, 12:45, 15:15 and 17:15. A visitor either takes the short version of the island or commits to the next departure and gets an hour and a half.

The crossing is 2.7 nautical miles and 30 to 35 minutes, five sailings a day each way, seven days a week with the Boston Harbor Islands ferry.

Peddocks is one of the largest islands in the harbour and one of the strangest: four connected drumlins carrying the remains of Fort Andrews, built in 1904, used to hold Italian prisoners of war in the 1940s and left standing since. The turnaround times mean most people see the fort and the shoreline path and little else — the schedule, not the island, sets the visit.
