Ferries from Moelv Skibladnerbrygga

Moelv is where the lake's two arms meet, and the timetable shows it: Lillehammer 12.8 nautical miles north at 90 minutes, Gjøvik 7.6 miles south-west at 60 minutes out and 50 back.

Two sailings a week on each leg — the 13:30 north, the 15:00 south, the 16:30 across — which is the whole of the service. Miss one and the next is a week away.

The ten-minute difference between the outbound and return times to Gjøvik is the sort of asymmetry a paddle steamer produces: wind and the day's loading matter more on a vessel of this age than they would on a modern hull. Moelv is a small industrial town on the eastern shore, and its pier exists because the boat has called here since the nineteenth century, not because the road along the lake is inadequate.
