Ferries from Lindøya vest

Lindøya is an island of cabins — several hundred small huts on leased plots, ten minutes from central Oslo — and its western quay carries 76 active sailings on ordinary city transit tickets.

Where the boats go

• Hovedøya — about 10 minutes, 26 sailings.
• Aker Brygge in central Oslo — about 12 minutes, 12 sailings.

Operated by Ruter, on the same fares as Oslo's buses and trams.

⚠ Lindøya has more than one quay

Lindøya Vest is the western landing. The island has a second stop, and the boat you want depends on which end of the island you are heading for — the walk between them is not long but the sailings are not interchangeable.

Check the stop name on the departure board rather than just "Lindøya".

The cabins

The island is covered with small painted huts, mostly built in the interwar years on plots leased from the city. They have no road access, no cars and strict rules on size and colour, and they pass down families rather than onto the open market.

The effect is a summer village in the middle of a capital's harbour, reachable on a tram ticket.

Visiting

The island is open to the public — there are beaches, paths and a summer café — but it is somebody's cabin colony rather than a park. Hovedøya, ten minutes away, is the island set up for day visitors, with the monastery ruins and the larger beaches.

Season

The island boats are a summer network. Frequency collapses outside the warm months and some calls stop entirely, so a winter visit needs the current timetable rather than the summer one.
