About

About Langøyene

Langøyene is the outermost of Oslo's near islands and the only one with camping, which is why its 50 sailings run 09:33 to 21:43 rather than round the clock — this is a summer destination rather than a residential one. The boat reaches Gressholmen in eight minutes. The island was a rubbish tip until the 1940s, then capped and turned into a public beach; it closed for several years for environmental works and reopened with new facilities. Ruter runs the service on ordinary Oslo transit tickets. The island has no shop and no fresh water supply, so campers bring everything with them on the boat. Ruter's island boats stop at several of these islands on one rotation, so the sailing time depends on where in the loop you board.
