About

About Langdale

Langdale is the Sunshine Coast's front door — a stretch of British Columbia mainland with no road to the rest of the mainland. Everything and everyone arrives on the 40-minute ferry from Horseshoe Bay, and the terminal's parking pass list quietly tells you who else lives out here.

The crossing

Langdale to Horseshoe Bay takes about 40 minutes, with 33 sailings in our timetable and 65 across the terminal in both directions. Operated by BC Ferries.

Parking, and what it reveals

Run by Robbins Parking: 347 spaces, 60 short-term and 287 long-term. Short-term is free for the first 30 minutes. Long-term runs $4.00 for up to 16 hours as a commuter rate, $8.00 per 24 hours, or $85 a month.

There is also a $690 annual pass — sold only to residents of Gambier Island and Keats Island. Those are the two islands in Howe Sound with no car ferry of their own; their residents park here permanently and take passenger boats home. One line in a parking tariff, and it maps an entire second transport network.

⚠ The Sunshine Coast is not a through route

From Langdale the highway runs northwest to Sechelt and Earls Cove, where another ferry crosses to Saltery Bay for Powell River. Driving up the coast means two ferries, not one, and the second is far less frequent.

Plan the pair together or you will make the first connection and miss the second by an hour.

What is out here

Gibsons is minutes from the terminal, Sechelt about forty, and the coast beyond runs to Powell River through fjord country with no bridge to anywhere. It is mainland British Columbia that behaves like an island.

Season

Year round. Summer weekends and long weekends fill the vehicle deck in both directions, and the Friday afternoon queue at Horseshoe Bay is the one people underestimate.
