Ferries from Karpathos

Karpathos lies between Crete and Rhodes in the southern Dodecanese, long and mountainous, with five sailings running 13:00 to 21:15 on the 75-minute crossing to Kasos. Blue Star Ferries operates the route. This is one of the more isolated corners of the Aegean: the island's northern village of Olympos was effectively unreachable by road until recent decades and kept a dialect and dress that had disappeared elsewhere. The ferry connects it into the chain running down towards Crete, and sailings thin considerably outside the summer season. The island's airport takes flights from Athens and Rhodes, which for many travellers makes the ferry the return leg rather than the outbound one.
