Ferries from Herand båtkai

Herand is the first call after Norheimsund and the boat is alongside for barely a minute: in at 09:23, out at 09:23 for Utne, 8.8 nautical miles and 32 minutes further on. The return passes at 17:15 and 17:45.

Seven sailings a week on each leg — one a day, every day, until 30 September. The evening call is the last chance to leave; there is nothing after a quarter to six.

The hillside above the village carries some of the most significant rock carvings in western Norway, cut into the stone during the Bronze Age: boats, human figures, cup marks. People have been travelling this fjord by water for three thousand years, and the carvings are what the earliest of them left behind at the point where the land is steep enough to make the water the only sensible road.
