About
About Gov. Island/Yankee Pier
Governors Island runs two entirely different services depending on the day. On weekdays, 14 sailings a week cross 0.4 nautical miles to Red Hook in 4 to 7 minutes, between 07:09 and 17:53. At weekends that route does not operate at all — instead the boats go to Pier 11 at Wall Street, 1.1 nautical miles away at 7 to 8 minutes.
The Wall Street link carries 14 arrivals and 16 departures a week, all of them between 10:04 and 17:49, and its calendar covers Saturday and Sunday alone.
The split is the island itself. Governors Island was an army post and then a Coast Guard base until 1996, and is now a public park with almost no permanent residents — so the weekday boats serve the people working there and the weekend boats serve the visitors. Neither runs in the evening.
