About Femundshytta brygge
Two crossings of very different scale meet here: Haugen at 1.4 nautical miles and 15 minutes, Røa at 3.3 miles and 30. The Haugen boat runs seven times a week, the Røa one ten, between 09:30 and 16:00.
The name records what this place was. Femund Hytte was a copper smelter, built in the 1740s to process ore from the Røros mines using the forests around the lake for charcoal — hytte here means smelting works, not cabin.
The Røros copper works ran for over three hundred years and shaped this whole district; the mining town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The lake was the transport artery for all of it, and the vessel that calls at this pier now, the Fæmund II, was built in 1905 to carry timber and ore before she ever carried walkers.
